The Multiscale Dynamics of Living Systems (DynLifeSys) Graduate Initiative focuses on the study of living systems by taking into account the different scales at which biological processes occur, from molecules and cells to tissues, organisms, and populations. The aim is to gain a better understanding of how interactions across these different scales give rise to complex biological functions, both under normal physiological conditions and in response to perturbations or pathological conditions.

This approach relies on the complementarity of several disciplines, including fundamental biology, biosciences, quantitative biology, health sciences, and mathematical and computational modelling. Modelling and data analysis can be used to describe the dynamics of biological systems, identify the mechanisms that regulate them, and understand how they respond to different perturbations. DynLifeSys therefore offers an interdisciplinary approach to life sciences, at the interface between experimental research and the modelling of complex systems, with the aim of training students to address major biological questions by combining different levels of analysis and a wide range of scientific methods.
