The DynLifeSys Graduate+ program is very proud to announce a scholarship in support of an excellent student who wish to complete a PhD in France, in an interdisciplinary doctoral program dedicated to study Dynamics of Living Systems.

Graduate + is a programme of training through research reuniting 4 French higher education institutions, 15 transdisciplinary thematic programmes of excellence from undergraduate to doctoral level, intensive immersion in the world of research, scholarships for international students as well as scholarships for international mobility.

This programme is supported by the French National Research Agency as part of the Investments Program #3 / France 2030 (ANR-21-SFRI-0001).

Aim of the thesis

This Doctoral scholarship is allocated for 3 years from September 2026 to August 2029 to a motivated applicant eager to work on in an interdisciplinary doctoral program dedicated to the study of living systems.

Procedure

PhD projects are selected by a dedicated committee.

Applications must be submitted in English.

PhD candidates must submit their application file to Cyril Charles (Cyril.Charles@ens-lyon.fr) with the following items:

  • A letter of recommendation of the potential thesis supervisor validating the PhD candidate and presenting the PhD project ;
    Curriculum Vitae (2 pages max) ;
  • Transcripts of records from Bachelor and Master degree ;
  • If applicable, abstracts of the candidate’s previous work (g. dissertation, internship reports, scientific articles…) ;
  • Motivation letter ;
  • Letter of recommendation written by a professor or supervisor ;
  • Copy of an official identity document

Calendar and selection procedure

PhD selection:

  • Submissions open for the PhD candidates: 15/05/2026
  • Deadline for applications: 30/06/2026

Scholarship amount

The amount of the doctoral scholarship is € 2300/month (gross salary) for 3 years.

Eligibility criteria for the PhD project:

  • Being a foreign student (dual citizenship accepted)
  • First year of PhD in 2026-2027.
  • Having obtained a Master’s degree in Life Sciences out of France before the beginning of the PhD scholarship, or being laureate of a Master Graduate+ program Excellence Scholarships for the academic year 2025-2026.
  • Supervisor must be in a research unit of the DynLifeSys program and must hold a HDR (Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches)
