We are pleased to announce the launching of the Excellence Scholarship Campaign for Masters students who wish to attend one of the masters of the Medical Device Engineering Graduate programme.

About the Medical Device Engineering Graduate Programme

The Medical Device Engineering Graduate Programme aims at training students in the fields of research and development of medical devices. 

The Master in Medical Device Engineering is a research-oriented programme in the medical device field: equipment, software, implanted and connected. The programme covers the entire medical device life cycle: development, production, regulatory affairs, commercialization and clinical use. The job opportunities are wide: the students can continue on a PhD, they can work in R&D in big companies or in SMB/SMI in the health industry.

The programme starts in September for a duration of 1 year and delivers 60 ECTS credits.

Courses of the Medical Device Engineering master are provided by academics from research laboratories of the Université de Lyon and professionals from the medical device industry.

These scholarships are intended for foreign students wishing to enroll in the Master in Medical Device Engineering.

The programme covers the development phase of various medical devices: from fundamental research, intellectual property, regulatory affairs to clinical usage. The program is instructed in English.

 This training programme is part of the Graduate+ project involving four French universities on the Lyon – Saint-Etienne site: Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon, Université Jean Moulin and Université Jean Monnet.

Graduate+ offers 15 transdisciplinary thematic programmes of excellence from undergraduate to doctoral level, intensive immersion into the world of research, scholarships for international students as well as scholarships for international mobility.

Scholarship amount

The amount of the scholarship is 1000€ per month for 10 months, totaling €10.000 per year per recipient.

 

Eligibility criteria

  • To be a foreign student, newcomer to a French university and living outside of France at the time of the application (French dual citizenship allowed)

  • Hold a 4-year bachelor degree or a one-year master degree before October 15th     2025 in the field of physics, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, biomechanics, pharmacy, physiotherapy, materials, veterinary, physical and analytical chemistry, physiology or medical.

 

Award criteria

  • Excellence of the academic background

  • Internship experiences and technical skills in research

  • Motivation and consistency of the professional project

Application Procedure

  • Submissions open: April 1st, 2025

  • Deadline for applications: June 6th, 2025

  • Admission results : June 27th 2025

  2. Once they have submitted their application to the program, they can apply to the excellence scholarship.

  3. They need to provide some abstracts of their work: scientific articles, internship reports to admission.master-medical-device@univ-lyon1.fr


To be enclosed with the application:

  • Proof of higher education diplomas: Master 1 (240 ECTS for European students)

  • Curriculum Vitae (1 page)

  • Cover letter: 1 page explaining the applicant’s career goals, how this Master’s programme will help the applicant to achieve them and their motivations to join Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1

  • Transcripts of records from Bachelor’s degree on

  • If applicable, abstracts of the candidate’s previous work (e.g. dissertation, books, internship reports, scientific articles…).

  • Proof of English level (TOEFL, IELTS, ECRL), except for English native speakers

  • Copy of an official identity document

  • Essay questions:

    • What are your research projects and why do you wish to pursue graduate studies in the Master in Medical Device Engineering? 

    • With respect to the proposed courses in the Master of Medical Device Engineering, how can our program help you achieve your project?
