Lyon Polymer Materials Science

Lyon Polymer Materials Science (LPMS) is a program enclosing high-level teaching and research in the field of polymer materials. The aim is to provide innovative solutions to the two key-challenges facing these materials:

  • societal issues & sustainability
  • need for polymer-based materials with functional and adaptative properties

LPMS objectives are to design polymers and macromolecular architectures with innovative properties keeping minimum environmental impact all along the polymer material conception and life span.

To address this issue, Lyon Polymer Materials Science brings together 7 internationally recognized research laboratories, 2 doctoral schools and a Master 2 course (“LPMS”) allowing covering the topics from synthesis, processing/shaping and structuring of materials for an optimization of their properties and durability as part of an eco-design approach.

The industrial, academic and international relationships developed by the laboratories and within the Master 2 program provide a dynamic, cross-disciplinary, high-level environment for:

  • students recruitment in the “LPMS” Master 2 course
  • internship opportunities at L3 and Master’s level
  • incoming and outgoing mobility for doctoral students and researchers
  • hosting students and PhDs in summer schools related to polymers
  • funding for doctoral grants

LPMS Days 2025

From 20 to 22 May 2025, students from the Chemistry–Materials undergraduate programme at Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 took part in the second edition of the LPMS Days. This immersive event, part of the Graduate + initiative, offered hands-on insights into materials science through lab visits, industrial tours, and discussions with researchers. Here’s a look back at three enriching days of discovery.

Visiting Professor

Professor Dave Haddleton, a world-renowned expert in polymer chemistry, is joining the Lyon Polymer Materials Science (LPMS) Graduate Initiative as a Visiting Professor in April 2025. Based at the Department of Chemistry, University of Warwick (UK), Professor Haddleton will be hosted by the CP2M Laboratory (UMR 5128) during his stay in Lyon.
